Birds aren’t the only ones flying south this winter.

After successfully launching in Canada this June, WestJet’s new ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) Swoop has become the first Canadian ULCC to enter the US market.

That’s right, you’ll soon be able to enjoy ultra-low-cost one-way flights from Alberta to the US starting this winter.

“Our immediate success in Canada shows us travellers want more Swoop,” said Steven Greenway, President of Swoop.

“Canadians have been waiting for ultra-low-cost fares into the US for years and we are proud to be the airline to make it happen. There has been a lot of interest in our plans for the remaining three aircraft we receive this year and revealing this schedule today is a proud moment for the whole Swoop team.”

Since its inception, “Swoop has been vocal about its intention to repatriate the estimated 5 million Canadians that drive across the border each year to take ULCC flights in the US, and this winter schedule is positioned to attract both cross-border travellers and price-sensitive sun-seekers,” reads a statement from the airline.

And now travellers looking to escape the inevitable Alberta snow can book a Swoop flight to select US cities from October 17 to April 27, as part of the airlines 2018/2019 winter schedule.

Flights within Alberta are limited to Las Vegas for the moment, but look to be expanding in the near future.

To celebrate this important milestone, Swoop is offering a web-only seat sale beginning on Thursday, August 2.

Travellers can now fly from Edmonton to Las Vegas for as low as $119, anytime from October 2018 to February 2019. To book the flight, simply visit their website and look for your dates of choice.

Just remember, when travelling with Swoop, you’re just paying for your seat, which means all extras are à la carte — but perhaps not quite as much as you might think.

Priority boarding can be added for $10.50 while checking a bag will run you an additional $26.25.

Inflight movies, WiFi, and more legroom can also be purchased.

Full details on Swoop can be found here.
