The snow has arrived, so we need fun, indoor events now more than ever.
Luckily, Calgary has farmers’ markets that serve as havens from the cold–ones that offer us delicious eats, hot coffee, and awesome entertainment into the fall and winter seasons.
Here’s the 2016 guide to fall/winter farmers’ markets in Calgary.
The Calgary Farmers’ Market is located just off Blackfoot Trail and Heritage Drive and it offers over 80 vendors for market-goers. Expect fresh produce, meat, poultry, art, organic goods, jewelry, and international foods when you come to this market. Staples here include Simple Simon’s Pies, Lund’s Organic Farm (be sure to try the carrots), Wayne’s Bagels, and a Jelly Modern Doughnuts stand.
When: Thursday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm
Where: 510 77 Avenue SE
The Crossroads Market has a little bit of everything, including some boutique vendors you wouldn’t expect to see at a farmers’ market, such as a retail space selling biker gear, or a stand that sells pins and buttons. Crossroads has a selection of traditional farmers’ market vendors, as well as a cafeteria-like space where you can dine-in from hot and ready food stalls. You can truly go around the world with the cuisine offered here, some must-hits are the Ukranian Bakery, the Old Munich German Sausage (we’re talking foot-long in a baguette), Hot Dog Corner, Waffles & Chix, and the Taqueria Mexicana El Mariachi. Tons of hidden gems are waiting for you here.
