The snow has arrived, so we need fun, indoor events now more than ever.

Luckily, Calgary has farmers’ markets that serve as havens from the cold–ones that offer us delicious eats, hot coffee, and awesome entertainment into the fall and winter seasons.

Here’s the 2016 guide to fall/winter farmers’ markets in Calgary.

The Calgary Farmers’ Market is located just off Blackfoot Trail and Heritage Drive and it offers over 80 vendors for market-goers. Expect fresh produce, meat, poultry, art, organic goods, jewelry, and international foods when you come to this market. Staples here include Simple Simon’s Pies, Lund’s Organic Farm (be sure to try the carrots), Wayne’s Bagels, and a Jelly Modern Doughnuts stand.

The Crossroads Market has a little bit of everything, including some boutique vendors you wouldn’t expect to see at a farmers’ market, such as a retail space selling biker gear, or a stand that sells pins and buttons. Crossroads has a selection of traditional farmers’ market vendors, as well as a cafeteria-like space where you can dine-in from hot and ready food stalls. You can truly go around the world with the cuisine offered here, some must-hits are  the Ukranian Bakery, the Old Munich German Sausage (we’re talking foot-long in a baguette), Hot Dog Corner, Waffles & Chix, and the Taqueria Mexicana El Mariachi. Hillhurst Farmers Market

Hillhurst’s outdoor market may have shut down for the season, but the indoor one is still in full swing. Enter this space for community gathering, live music, and local and sustainable produce. Over 80% of its vendors are Alberta-grown and produced product.

When: From October to the first week of May the market takes place on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 3 to 7pm

Get a head start on your holiday shopping at the 34th Annual Bearspaw Fall & Christmas Market. Over 85 vendors will be at the Bearspaw Lifestyle Centre for this event hosted by Illichmann’s Sausage Shop. This market has a $3 entry fee that will give you access to crafts, artisan-made gifts, and a plethora of snacks, pastries, and cakes.
