Get lost on the perfect fall date at these corn mazes around Calgary

Sep 7 2018, 5:11 am

Hello September! The kids are heading back to school, the outdoor pools are closing up, and everyone can hesitantly begin breaking out their fall wardrobe again because we’re about to turn the corner into the next season.

And of course, with Autumn comes Halloween, with Halloween comes pumpkin patches, and with pumpkin patches come huge corn mazes to get lost in.

Nothing says Canadian romance quite like jumping out of the stalks and scaring the toque off of your partner, right?

Calgary has a handful of great mazes to check out between now and Halloween, so grab those rubber boots from the basement, dust off those mittens, and try your best not to suffer heat stroke while convincing yourself that it’s totally cold enough to dress for fall.

Here are a few of our favourites — all of which are already open.

Bowden Sun Maze

With the only sunflower maze in Canada — along with other, cornier mazes — Bowden Sun Maze is a must-visit. And the sooner the better, as the sunflower maze opened on August 1, and the intense heat of the sun is ironically taking its toll on the flowers. If you get there and the sunflower maze is out of commission, you’ll still have a great day in their corn mazes and at their UPick farms.

This year they’re even offering ‘Sunsets in the Sunflowers’ extended hours, allowing people to stick around past closing to get a shot of the flowers being backlit by a stunning sunset. The extended hours will only be in operation for Thursday and Friday of the first two weeks of September, however.

Sunset Times
Sept 6: 8:04pm
Sept 7: 8:03pm
Sept 13: 7:54pm
Sept 14: 7:52pm

Regular Hours: 1 to 5 pm Monday to Thursday, 11 am to 5 pm Friday to Sunday, and on September 5
Where: 24530 Range Road #14, Bowden
Admission: $9 for adults, $6.50 for kids (5-17), free for 4 and under
