7 places to get BBQ eats in Calgary

Summer is in full swing and so is BBQ season. Before you get all up in your own grill, check out these great places to enjoy traditional BBQ eats without any effort needed.

Here are 7 of the best places to go to for BBQ food in Calgary.

1. Hayden Block Smoke and Whiskey

Daily smoked meat for up to 14 hours—enough said. Order up trays of hot links, pulled pork, tender brisket, turkey breast, pork spare ribs, beef short ribs, chicken, smoked wings, or rib ends (or try a bit of each) with sides like bacon wrapped corn on the cob or macaroni salad. All meats are half off after 10pm. Sandwich options are also available and must be paired with their in-house made barbecue sauces.

If you want your baby back, baby back , baby back ribs, get your fingers ready for a slab of The Rock Café’s BBQ sauce smothered or sweet chili glazed ribs. Their burger patty selection is as monstrous the appetite required to finish one and includes beef, bison, boar, elk, shrimp, chicken, lamb, and even—gasp!—veggie. Gluten-free buns also offered.

3. Big T’s BBQ and Smokehouse

With three different locations in the city, Big T’s is a carnivore’s dream offering the reliably delicious baby back ribs, grilled chicken combos, brisket burgers, and pulled pork sandwiches along with BBQ nachos and smoked poutine topped with your choice of brisket of pulled pork. If you manage to devour their Elvis Platter you will get Carnivore King status as the plate is piled high with tender sliced brisket, pulled pork, St. Louis ribs, a half chicken, saucy rib ends, local Andouille sausage, along with a side of coleslaw, beans, fries, gravy, cornbread, and buns. Recommend to be shared with others or you might have to be rolled out of the place.

Bookers serves Southern smokehouse style BBQ and giant Southern-sized portions. Their signature BBQ plates are piled high with smoked brisket, chicken, or St. Louis ribs and a BBQ platter with all of the goodness of their BBQ plate plus pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and fries. Other meat options include house-made Andouille sausage, smoked chicken wings, burgers, and grilled meats between bread.

Smoking up all of the classic meats in two locations, this place is known for their saucy selection of homemade BBQ sauces, buttery homemade cornbread along with their Southern-style BBQ. A must try is their Manwich sandwich that has pulled pork and brisket stacked mile high.
