Vancouver Tree Lighting Celebration 2013 benefits local charities

Dec 19 2017, 8:56 am

Come to the Vancouver Convention Centre’s Jack Pool Plaza on Friday, December 6 for live music, celebrity appearances and sweet treats.

Kick off the Christmas season with this free, public, outdoor event benefiting local charities. Accompany Steve Darling of Global TV, former Canuck Trevor Linden, members of the BC Lions and the rest of the cheery crew!

The 50 foot, Rockefeller-style Christmas tree makes its way out of storage in Burnaby, through the downtown core to Jack Poole Plaza two days before the event. It is constructed each year by the Amacon Construction department. The tree weighs in at 7,961lbs and is covered in 64,700 bright bulbs.

The tree assembly process takes a total of 6 workers and 10 hours to build. This year, the Tree will be surrounded with 3 additional neighboring trees at 18, 16 and 14 feet respectively. The trees are graciously sponsored by the Vancouver Tree Lighting Celebration’s loyal supporters: Shaw, McCarthy Tétrault, The Vancouver Sun and The Province. These additional trees will add to the bright and festive atmosphere with their 12,300 additional bulbs.

Amacon continues to bring the spirit of Christmas to the City of Vancouver with the seventh annual Rockefeller-style, Tree Lighting Celebration. Starting in 2007, this event has raised approximately $600,000 for local charities throughout the Lower Mainland through the generous support and donations from our partners.

This year, the spotlight will shine on the following admirable charities:

  • Sarah McLaughlin School of Music
  • The Trevor Linden Foundation
  • BC Lions Courage for the Kids
  • Honour House Society
  • Canada Company
  • The Empty Stocking Fund
  • CKNW Orphans Fund on behalf of the Vancouver Giants
  • Lasting M.A.G.I.C. Society
