There has been a fatal vehicle collision at the intersection of West 41st Avenue and Oak Street in Vancouver this morning. The incident occurred just after 9 a.m.

According to Vancouver Police, a red Suzuki was making a left turn to travel eastbound on 41st Avenue when it was struck by a grey Audi on Oak Street’s northbound direction.

A 68-year-old Vancouver man driving the Suzuki incurred critical injuries. He was rushed to hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries. The 34-year-old Richmond man driving the Audi was also taken to hospital, but his injuries were non-life threatening.

Based on evidence and accounts from witnesses, police believe the speed of the Audi was a factor in the crash.

“Having to tell someone their husband, wife, father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter has been killed in a crash is a horrific job police are doing far too often,” said Constable Brian Montague in a statement. “I can’t imagine what it is like for the person who has to receive that knock at the door from our officers.”

Police are investigating the collision.
