An art instructor who teaches out of his home in South Vancouver is now facing charges in connection with the alleged sexual assault of one of his nine-year-old students.

According to VPD, the alleged incident took place on March 22, when the 50-year-old apparently sexually assaulted the student during an art class at his home near East 64th Avenue and Prince Edward Street.

“This is a very disturbing incident where a child was left under the care of an adult, and that adult allegedly took advantage of her,” said VPD Const. Tania Visintin.

The man is charged with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and one count of invitation to sexual touching.

As part of his bail conditions, he is not to have any contact with persons under the age of 16 unless in the presence of their parents or in the presence of another adult approved by the bail supervisor.

With these charges, Visintin said investigators are concerned “there may be other children that have attended Chen’s residence and could have more information or be of assistance to this investigation.”

He is described as Asian, 5’8″ tall, with black and white hair and glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call VPD investigators at 604-717-0604.
