TransLink disinfecting buses, trains, stations to prevent coronavirus spread

TransLink says it is “taking all the steps” to keep trains, buses, Seabuses, and stations clean to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

In a statement to Daily Hive, TransLink spokesperson Ben Murphy said stations and bus loops across the transit network are being cleaned at least once a day. This includes a disinfectant wipe down of stair and escalator handrails, elevator buttons, door handles, fare gates, Compass vending machines, garbage handles, benches, seats, emergency cabinets, and emergency phones.

SkyTrain cars are cleaned overnight and poles, seats, ceilings, handles, windows, sills, and other surfaces are wiped down with disinfectants.

Buses, Seabuses, and HandyDART are being sprayed with a disinfectant every evening, in addition to daily cleaning schedules. West Coast Express trains are also disinfected and cleaned every evening.

Although the transit authority has not been directed to make operational changes, Murphy says at this time, “TransLink is closely monitoring the situation and we remain in contact with regional health authorities and other transit agencies in order to determine best practices and ensure our response is appropriate.”
