Where to have your Sushi Cake...and eat it, too

There’s chocolate cake. Carrot cake. Black Forest cake. Angel Food cake. But have you ever had Sushi Cake?

Okay, first up, while you may be tempted to stick candles in it and order it up for your next birthday, this is a kind of cake you don’t save for dessert–although we wouldn’t blame you.

Sushi Cake is on the menu at Kimu in Renfrew-Collingwood, and it is a pretty dazzling vision.

Made of crab meat, avocado, shitake mushroom, salmon, spicy tuna, and tobiko, it comes served on on sushi rice “dough” and is torched with spicy mayo, BBQ sauce, balsamic reduction, and dotted with caper and garlic chips.

To borrow from our friend Guy Fieri, this Sushi Cake is a one-way ticket to Flavortown. It definitely has a lot of flavours, but it’s also something you definitely don’t see every day on the the menu at your local sushi spot.

Kimu has a variety of Japanese eats on the menu, from appies to udon, as well as an extensive sushi and sashimi menu. They also have a few takes on another wild mash-up, sushi pizza, on the menu.

The restaurant opened at the end of 2016, and it’s been getting a lot of play on Instagram, thanks in no small part to their epic Sushi Cake.
