A Vancouver man who was riding a motorcycle through New Westminster this morning is dead after he collided with a car at approximately 8 am.

According to New Westminster Police (NWPD), the incident took place on 10th Avenue, between McBride Boulevard and 6th Street.

The area was closed for several hours, as police investigated the scene, but has since reopened.

“This is a very sad situation,” said NWPD Sgt. Jeff Scott.

At this point, he added, “it’s too early on in the investigation to determine who’s at fault or what the cause of the collision is.”

That being said, “we’d like to remind both drivers and motorcyclists to slow down and drive responsibly.”

Police are continuing to investigate to determine whether speed, or other factors contributed to the crash.

The collision is the second one in as many days involving a motorcyclist, after a serious crash in Burnaby yesterday.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the NWPD at 604-525-5411.
