25-year-old man charged in crash that left one dead and injured two others

A 25-year-old man has been charged in an accident that left one dead and injured two others in Surrey on November 4.

According to Surrey RCMP, a black 2016 Jeep Cherokee was travelling westbound on 88 Avenue just after midnight when it crossed the centre median and collided with a Ford Escape travelling eastbound near 134 Street. Four people were inside the Ford at the time.

The driver of the Ford Escape was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers remain in hospital with life-threatening injuries. The fourth passenger was treated for minor injuries and was later released from hospital.

Police apprehended the driver of the Jeep, Nicolas Karvouniaris of Surrey, at the scene.

Karvouniaris was charged with one count of Dangerous Driving Causing Death and two counts of Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm. He has been released on court-ordered conditions with a future court date.

Police are continuing the investigation and authorities are asking to speak with anyone who has dash-cam or cell phone video of the incident or was a witness to the collision.
