Description

Montréal-based, Vancouver-born jazz vocalist, and songwriter, Sarah Kennedy performs as a solo artist and as a bandleader. Known for her light and smooth vocal tone, her depth of emotional expression, and a cunning sense of humour, Sarah has performed in the TD international jazz festival and was interviewed by CBC's hot air for the 100th birthday of Ella Fitzgerald. During the pandemic she completed her Masters in Creative Arts Therapies at Concordia University in Montréal and incorporates music therapy perspectives into her performances.

‘The Beloved’ is Sarah Kennedy’s second album featuring original music composed around poetry about universal connection, love, and finding inner peace. While recovering from heartbreak and broken dreams, Sarah was handed a book titled “The Gift”. It contained Daniel Ladynski’s artistic interpretations of the poems of Sufi master Hafiz. Sarah embarked on a personal healing journey through song. ‘The Beloved’ intertwines seven poems (used with permission) in original jazz-folk compositions; the work of Sarah and her musical collaborator of many years, Dan Reynolds. The album was recorded in 2019, but the pandemic delayed completion of production until recently. The pre-release concert of ‘The Beloved’ on December 28th promises to be a thrilling and elevating acoustic experience.

The Unitarian Sanctuary is an auditorium with high ceilings, wonderful acoustics and capacity for 125 people with distancing.

**Proof of vaccination will be required for entry. There is no provision of food or drinks. There is a free parking lot.

**In case of cancellation tickets can be refunded, excluding the Eventbrite fee.

Sarah is joined by Dan Reynolds (piano, co-composer), Alex Kelley (bass), Bernie Arai (drums) with guest appearances from Michael Rush (bass, album producer), and Juhli Conlinn (vocal harmonies).
