Watch hundreds of butterflies take flight this summer in Langley

May 10 2018, 3:21 am

Remember being in elementary school and having your own ‘pet’ caterpillar as a school project? Remember watching the caterpillar grow, turn into a cocoon and then being released in with your classmates, as tons of colourful wings take flight in the air?

If you want to rekindle that childhood view, or never had the chance to do it yourself, you’re in luck. You’ll be able to see it, but multiply the number of butterflies tenfold.

The 5th Annual Butterfly Release & Fundraiser is returning to the Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery in Langley this summer. The annual fundraiser brings in hundreds of guests every year who join the celebration at the beautiful gardens onsite.

On the day of the event, 400 Painted Lady Butterflies will take flight for the very first time, in an eclectic display of colour. The butterflies are released symbolically, in memory and honour of loved ones, by participants of all ages.

Guests are invited to “purchase” their own butterflies to release on the date. The insects can be pre-ordered for $25 with proceeds from the event being donated to the Langley Hospice Society and the Langley Lodge.

In addition to watching the butterflies take flight, the event will also host live entertainment, children’s crafts and activities, face painting, live music, a waffle bar, cafe, marketplace, and wine tastings.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 7, 2018, and butterflies for release can be pre-ordered online.
