Environment Canada has issued a special weekend weather statement for Metro Vancouver due to rising temperatures.
The heat warning applies to the following areas:
- City of Vancouver – including Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Vancouver – northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
- Metro Vancouver – southeast including Surrey and Langley
- Metro Vancouver – southwest including Richmond and Delta
- North Shore – including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
According to Environment Canada, not only will the next few days be filled with sun, but temperatures are expected to reach over 30°C inland.

Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding Metro Vancouver residents to take the following precautionsĀ in the heat:
- Stay hydrated by drinking cold beverages (preferably water) irrespective of your activity intake. Don’t wait until you are thirsty.
- Keep cool
- Spending time in an air-conditioned facility (such as a shopping centre, library, community centre or restaurant) for at least several hours every day.

- Avoid sunburn, stay in the shade or use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more.
- NEVER leave children or pets alone in a parked car.

- People living alone are at high risk of severe heat-related illness. Check regularly on older people, those who are unable to leave their homes, and anyone who may not be spending at least several hours every day in air-conditioned places for signs of heat-related illness.
