An envelope full of money seems to be a hard thing to hang on to in the Lower Mainland.

Just over a week after an envelope of money was turned into North Vancouver RCMP, police in Coquitlam have now reported a similar thing has happened there.

And while the cash-stuffed envelope in North Vancouver was labeled “Rent Money,” the envelope in Coquitlam contained no label at all.

In a release issued on Wednesday, police said the envelope was turned into police on September 21, after it was found at Coquitlam Centre Mall (2829 Barnet Highway).

“An anonymous good Samaritan found the envelope and turned it in to security but no one has come forward to claim the cash,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with the Coquitlam RCMP.”We would like to close the loop on this selfless act by finding the rightful owner of the money.”

Police said they have a “good description” of the person they belive the money belongs to, but that description – along with the exact amount of cash that was in the enevelope – “will be held back so that only the rightful owner can claim the money.”

If you are the owner of the money, or you know who it is, Coquitlam RCMP are asking you to call the non-emergency number at 604-945-1550 and ask for Constable Ashleigh Daniels (file 2017-30202).
