Elias Pettersson has been named one of the NHL’s Three Stars for the second time this season.

This time the Canucks rookie is receiving the league’s First Star of the Week honour after leading the NHL with eight points (2-6-8) last week.

Pettersson tallied a goal and four assists, scoring five points in a game for the second time this season on Sunday. In doing so, Pettersson became the sixth rookie since 1967 to record multiple five-point games in a single season. He’s just the second rookie to achieve the feat before the end of December (Bryan Trottier was the other in 1975).

Prior to Sunday, Pettersson scored a penalty shot goal and added an assist Thursday against Nashville, as well as notching an assist against Minnesota on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old Swede’s week also included scoring the game-winning goals in both of Vancouver’s victories against the Blues and Predators.

Pettersson has overtaken Bo Horvat for the Canucks scoring lead and leads all NHL rookies with 30 points (15-15-30) in 26 games this season.

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Loui Domingue (3-0-0, 1.33 GAA, .957 SV%) and Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau (eight points in four games) were named the NHL’s Second and Third Stars, respectively.

Pettersson is the first Canucks player to win one of the NHL’s First Star since Brock Boeser on January 29 of this year. Prior to Boeser, no Canucks player had been recognized as one of the Three Stars since November 23, 2015.
