One of Canada's most famous journalists is heading to CNN to cover Trump full-time
After 11 years, The Toronto Star’s Daniel Dale is leaving his position as their Washington bureau chief.
The award-winning political reporter says he will be working with CNN “on the truth beat full-time starting June 17, dissecting dishonesty from Trump, Democratic candidates, and others.”
Dale, who won the 2019 National Newspaper Award: Norman Webster Award for International Reporting, shared a series of tweets on Wednesday, saying that for the last few years, he’s done his popular fact-checking pieces on his own time.
We are excited to welcome Daniel Dale @ddale8 to @CNN’s Washington bureau, where he will join as a reporter on the fact-checking beat!

“For the last three years, I’ve done most of the fact-checking on my ‘own’ time, weekends and nights, while trying to do my actual correspondent job during the day. Now the truth file will be my full-time focus,” said Dale.
“I started fact-checking Trump in September 2016 because I was frustrated that much of the campaign coverage didn’t seem very interested in talking about what was true and not true. This is a great opportunity to get more facts to a US audience this time around.”

As the Washington bureau chief, Dale covered US President Donald Trump’s administration. He was also the Toronto Star’s city hall reporter and bureau chief, and covered Mayor Rob Ford’s administration.
The Thornhill native said it’s hard to leave his hometown paper after 11 years.
“The Star is such an important institution, doing investigative and accountability work nobody else does,” he said.
Dale starts at CNN on June 17.
