Metro Vancouver home unveils incredible larger-than-life Christmas display (PHOTOS)

A Burnaby home known for its extraordinary Christmas light displays has returned for another year while collecting donations for the BC Children’s Hospital.

Every year, the DuPlessis family puts together an incredible holiday lights display at 8222 Burnlake Drive. The decorations are synchronized with music and run 12-minute shows daily between 4:30 pm and 12 am. Joel DuPlessis, who puts the decorations up, tells Daily Hive that the process takes an entire month.

“I take the month of November off every year to do this,” he says in an interview. “It’s pretty much a solo effort to do repairs and modifications and just let my brain kind of wander into the whimsical world of Christmas.”

He does get a helping hand, however, from his friends and wife, who help bring the decoration process started.

This year’s display features an “ice rink” installation featuring Mickey, Minney, Olaf, Charlie Brown, and Snoopy. The DuPlessis’ snowman family has also grown and can be seen amongst stunning new Christmas trees and Santa waving from a hot air balloon.

And you look closely, you’ll also be able to find Misfit Island, Snoopy and Woodstock flying in a plane, and the Grinch in his sleigh.

DuPlessis is also excited to make another donation to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, noting that last year, his family donated nearly $17,000.

“Last year, it was unbelievable,” he says. “We ended up getting just shy of $17,000. In previous years it was just under $4,000 so that’s always been my goal. But I was emptying the bucket every night and was like ‘This is crazy, we have to start counting this early’.”

The DuPlessis Christmas display can be enjoyed from the comfort of one’s vehicle or while socially distanced at the curbside and will be open until January 9, 2022.
