There's a heat warning in effect for Toronto today

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the City of Toronto.

It’s currently 26.9°C in the city as of 10 am and it’s expected to reach 31°C later this afternoon. According to The Weather Network, that 31°C will leave the city feeling more like 36°C later today.

The heat warning refers to the next two days as the “First heat event of the season,” and is expected to last into tomorrow and possibly even Tuesday.

Environment Canada Heat Warning

First heat event of the season beginning today.

Temperatures are expected to reach 31 degrees today and near 32 degrees on Monday with overnight lows near 21 degrees, providing little relief from the heat during this timeframe. It is also possible that these heat conditions will persist into Tuesday. Temperatures will fall below heat warning criteria by the middle of this week.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, swimming pool, shower or bath, or air-conditioned spot like a public building.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
