Environment Canada issues Special Weather Statement for City of Toronto

Special is a funny word.

Especially when it’s applied to weather. ‘Cause somehow special never ends up meaning anything good is about to happen.

Today is a perfect example of that. (In fact, so was yesterday.) Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the City of Toronto that includes words like ‘snow’, ‘rain’, ‘freezing rain’, and ‘slippery roads’.

Like we said, there’s nothing wonderfully special about this. It’s more like a Horrible Weather Statement. But we digress.

Their forecast is as follows:

Today

Cloudy. Periods of snow or rain beginning late this afternoon. Wind becoming east 20 km/h gusting to 40 this morning. High plus 4. UV index 3 or moderate.

Tonight

Periods of snow or rain changing to rain early this evening. Rainfall amount 10 mm. Wind east 20 km/h gusting to 40 increasing to 40 gusting to 60 this evening. Low plus 1.

Toronto Weather March 30

Spring does finally look like it’s going to show up in April, with a high of 12°C and sun predicted for this Sunday.

But before we get there we have to say goodbye to a very special March.

Environment Canada’s full Special Weather Statement below:

A low pressure system over Missouri will track towards Southern Ontario in the next couple of days.

Precipitation associated with this system is expected to reach areas southwest of a line from Wingham-Blyth-Northern Huron County to Hamilton during the day today, then spread into the Toronto – Barrie corridor later this afternoon. It will likely begin as some snow mixed with rain, then change over to rain by Thursday evening. Periods of rain will then continue through much of Friday before tapering off Friday night. Total rainfall amounts in the 15 to 25 mm range are possible.

There is also a risk of freezing rain late today in a few areas before the mixed precipitation changes to rain.

Caution is advised for travel due to potentially slippery roads prior to the changeover to rain.
