Toronto is getting a new outdoor skating rink this winter

Nov 22 2018, 10:40 pm

Toronto’s list of winter activities just got a lot more magical, thanks to a new outdoor skating rink that’s opening this November.

The Aurora Skating Rink, part of the city’s first-ever Aurora Winter Festival, opens on Friday, November 29.

The rink will be located at Ontario Place, giving skaters beautiful, unobstructed views of the Toronto skyline and CN Tower.

It features a built-in refrigeration system, meaning you’ll be skating on real ice, even if temperatures push as high as 10°C outside.

Visitors will be able to skate around a 20-foot-tall high light sculpture, under a 50-foot-tall Aurora light dome, and past a 30-foot-tall natural Christmas tree – meaning more than enough photo-worthy opportunities.

There will also be two islands on the ice where users can take breaks and people watch.

The best part, however, is this is the only skating rink on a fully licensed site in Toronto, meaning your winter date nights are about to get a heck of a lot more fun.

Skaters can enjoy a mulled wine, hot apple cider, Baileys and hot chocolate, seasonal beers, and other beverages right next to the rink.

Admission to the Aurora Skating Rink is free if you bring your own skates. Rentals are also available.

Other attractions of the festival include a 200-foot-long tubing park and a 60-foot Ferris wheel, to name a few.

The Aurora Winter Festival runs from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 30, 2018. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
