Subway has plans to reopen “as many restaurants across Canada as possible” this month, with new and enhanced health and safety measures in place.

Some of the steps being taken already existed in Subway restaurants, while others are new and have been developed in response to the ongoing pandemic.

To help protect the wellbeing of franchise owners, employees and guests, the following rules and guidelines are to be implemented by franchise owners across the country:

  • Enhanced cleaning procedures, such as hourly restaurant cleanings, especially in high-touch areas such as door handles and credit card terminals
  • Restaurant employees to be equipped with masks, installing plexiglass shields at registers, and implemented social distancing guidelines for guests and employees
  • Owners have been given guidance to conduct wellness checks of restaurant staff at the start of each shift
  • Reinforcement of stringent health and food safety standards, like wearing single-use gloves when making sandwiches, required handwashing several times throughout each shift, and individually wrapping and sealing all subs

“Many things have changed in the past weeks and months, but as we reopen our doors Canadians can rely on their local Subway for quality meals prepared fresh,” Cristina Wells, country director for Subway Canada, said in a release. “Subway is committed to ensuring we exceed customer expectations to give them peace of mind during this transition period.”

In addition to intensified guidelines surrounding health and well-being in restaurants, the sandwich chain is also introducing contactless ordering options.

In the coming weeks, curbside pickup will be available through the Subway App in select locations across the country.
