How much do you pay for your weed? How much do you buy? The federal government wants to know.
In a newly launched online questionnaire entitled Crowdsourcing Cannabis, Statistics Canada encourages participants to “tell us us about your last purchase of dried cannabis.”
That includes how much you paid and how much you received, what city you made the transaction in, and whether you used it for medical or recreational purposes.
The survey also includes a helpful graph, which shows the price of cannabis across Canada, per gram, as of 2017.
For those concerned about sharing information when cannabis isn’t technically legal yet in Canada, don’t worry: “All your submissions remain completely anonymous.”
By law, StatsCan is prohibited from releasing any information it collects that could identify any person, business, or organization, unless consent has been given by the respondent, or as permitted by the Statistics Act.
The data collected from the survey will be used “in the Canadian system of national accounts to support the creation and validation of measures relating to the importance of the cannabis sector in the Canadian economy,” said StatsCan.
The information may also be used for “other statistical and research purposes.”
Information collected from the survey will be made available for download and include a cross-section of information such as submission date, price, quantity, quality, city, primary purpose, average usage, and average consumption.
