2 high schools on lock-down following Scarborough shooting

Update at 4:48 pm: Police say the lockdown and Hold and Secure at the neighbouring schools has been lifted. SB Birchmount St remains closed at Bonis to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Update at 4:16 pm: Toronto Police say the victim from the shooting earlier has succumbed to his injuries. He has been pronounced dead in hospital. No other details have been released at this time.

Update at 4:02 pm: The Toronto District School Board say that the lockdown has been lifted at Tam O’Shanter PS & students are being released to parents. Pauline Johnson is now in a hold and secure. John Buchan & Stephen Leacock remain in lockdown. Students will be dismissed from the schools when the lockdown is lifted by police.

Update at 3:27 pm: At this time, the four schools remain in lockdown, according to the school board. Toronto Police request parents go to the staging area which has been changed to a central location in the parking lot behind the Agincourt Mall, at the Agincourt library. Concerned family members are urged to make they way there, best to accessed from Kennedy Road and Bonis Ave.

Update at 3:03 pm: Toronto police confirm there are no injuries reported in either school. “At this time the lock-down is precautionary,” they said. “There are two staging are two staging areas, Ron Watson Park and Tam Oshanter park, concerned parents can attend either for details and updates.”

Update at 2:30 pm: The Toronto District School Board has tweeted that the following schools are in lockdown: John Buchan SPS, Stephen Leacock CI, Tam O’ Shanter JPS and Pauline Johnson JPS.

Toronto police say a male is suffering life-threatening injuries following a shooting in Scarborough.

The shooting reportedly took place around Bonis Avenue and Birchmount, which is close to two high schools. Police have placed the schools in lock-down, although no injuries have been reported at either school.
