Things have gone from bad to worse for Genie Bouchard, if that’s even possible.
On Wednesday, the Canadian tennis pro was eliminated from the French Open before it even began, being forced to retire from her match against Dalila Jakupovic in the first round of qualifying, due to an injury.

Bouchard may have re-aggravated an abdominal injury that gave her trouble earlier this month, forcing her out of a tune-up tournament for Roland-Garros.
The fact that Bouchard had to participate in the qualifying round of the French Open is a story in itself, as the 24-year-old has fallen down the WTA rankings, now sitting 167th in the world.
Once ranked No. 5 in the world, Genie’s 2014 season that saw her reach the Wimbledon final and the semi-final at Grand Slams in Australia and France seems a long time ago now.
This will mark the first time that Bouchard has missed a Grand Slam since 2013, ending her streak of 20 consecutive main draws played.
