Evander Kane is mourning the loss of his unborn daughter.
The Vancouver native who currently plays for the San Jose Sharks revealed the news in a statement posted on Twitter on Thursday.

“I would like to thank everyone who has reached out to my wife and I during this extremely difficult time,” wrote Kane.
“Over the weekend, our daughter, Eva, at 26 weeks, passed away. As expecting parents, this past week has broken us.”

“My family and I are heartbroken. Words cannot express how excited we were to welcome our baby girl into this world and watch her grow,” continued Kane.
The 27-year-old has not played for the Sharks since February 26, following an injury.
