Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Toronto, as Friday’s humid conditions are expected to continue through the weekend and into next week.

According to the weather agency, a hot and humid air mass will make its way into the area on Friday and will stick around until Monday.

Daytime maximum temperatures of 31ºC are expected along with overnight low temperatures of 20ºC, providing little relief from the heat.

However, there may be some relief on Sunday, as showers or thunderstorms are possible. Thankfully by Tuesday temperatures will drop, as a slightly cooler air mass is expected to arrive.

The weather agency is reminding the public that extreme heat affects everyone and is reminding people to drink plenty of water and stay in cool places.

Environment Canada also stressed to not leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

“Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” reads the weather statement.
