Public school in lockdown following drive by shooting

UPDATE: As of 4:22 pm, police say Firgrove Public School the lockdown has been lifted.  Children will be released class by class, and parents allowed allowed to pick them up. They remind parents to be patient, and that there still may be a partial road closure.

Police are investigating following a drive-by shooting in front of a Toronto public school Wednesday afternoon, placing the school on ‘hold and secure’.

Officers were called to the area around Jane and Finch after receiving reports of a drive-by shooting in front of Firgrove Public school.

Police are currently on scene investigating and evidence of gunfire was located. Police say a male may have been shot, and the suspect may have gotten into an SUV.

The area around the school has been closed to vehicles and pedestrians and Firgrove Public School is currently in a hold and secure.

This is the second Toronto school to be put on a hold and secure on Wednesday after St. Basil the Great College School went under one earlier in the afternoon.

Police say a student received a threat, and no one was allowed to enter into the school during the hold and secure.

All business within the school, however, will continue.
