If there’s anything we’ve discovered this summer, it’s that our inner mixologists have been there all along. Who needs to buy an expensive craft cocktail when you can make a perfectly good one at home?

Now that fall is officially here, we’ve found ourselves especially intent on finding the ultimate autumn cocktail mixtures — something that will invigorate our fall routines and make us feel okay about kissing the lazy days of summer goodbye.

Our findings have been anything but disappointing as we reignite our love for coffee-infused cocktails. Tia Maria — the delicious brand of cold-brew infused liqueur — is debuting a new look. Ever true to its message — “One of a Kind” — Tia Maria highlights its uniqueness through the new design, opting to express the authentic character and the brand’s dynamic energy.

To celebrate, we’ve put together some easy-to-make cocktail recipes for you to sip on all season. On top of breathing new life into your next happy hour, you can whip them up at your next dinner party to intrigue guests with your fresh take on beloved cocktail classics.

Tia on the Rocks

Since Tia Maria is a blend within itself, it’s perfect for savouring all on its own (with the help of some ice cubes for chilling).

The mixture is made using cold brew extract with the finest blend of 100% Arabica beans for a distinctive roasted, full-bodied taste. It also works in tandem with Madagascar vanilla and Jamaican rum — its other, lesser-known ingredients — for a true one of a kind liqueur rich in flavours and with a strong aromatic structure.

If you’re wondering the secret to getting those big, beautiful ice cubes, Tia Maria Brand Ambassador and mixologist extraordinaire, Aaron Male, tells us the key is filling silicone moulds with boiling water.

“Do it in two stages: fill it halfway, freeze it, fill it halfway, freeze it. That’ll help get less of those white air bubbles, so you’ll get a clearer looking ice cube for the home mixologist,” he says. A larger cube will also allow the ice to melt slower and prevent it from diluting your drink.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Tia Maria
  • Ice

Method:

Fill the glass with ice and add Tia Maria.

Tia Espresso Martini

Have you ever made it to a much-anticipated happy hour only to find that you’re sluggish from a long day? We’ve got just the thing.

In fact, that’s literally how the espresso martini was invented. Picture this: it’s the 1980s in London and a model approaches the bar with a request for a rousing cocktail. The bartender combined a mixture of ingredients — espresso and vodka — that came together shockingly well. The rest is history, though we can safely say it’s due for a revamp.

Male’s pro tip when it comes to mastering this iconic cocktail: shake it like a polaroid picture. A hard shake of your cocktail mixer is essential to getting that gorgeous foam on the surface of your martini. “That’s going to get more oxygen into your cocktail, which is what helps develop that crème,” says Male.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Tia Maria
  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz. espresso
  • ½ oz. simple syrup

Method:

Combine all ingredients together with crushed ice in a Boston shaker. Shake and strain into a martini glass.

Tia Cold Fashioned

The storied history behind Tia Maria’s enduring mixture is nearly as distinct as its taste. As the story goes, it dates back to the mid-17th century when a young Spanish aristocrat fleeing civil war left behind a small jewellery box holding an ancient manuscript with the recipe for a mysterious liqueur. Preserved by her maid, the family recipe has carried on until today and was named after the courageous woman who safeguarded it.

When it comes to mastering the orange zest garnish on a cold fashioned, Male insists it’s all about making friends with your potato peeler. The key is finding one that’s wide because it “gives you a better grip against your orange,” he says. Then all you have to do is “press hard and pull.”

A new take on an old classic, the sweetness of the bourbon cuts the bitter notes of the espresso and Tia Maria for a match made in heaven.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Tia Maria
  • 1 oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. cold brew coffee
  • Orange twist

Method:

Fill the glass with ice and add Tia Maria, bourbon and coffee. Gently stir and garnish with an orange peel.
