Canadian Tire is upping its e-commerce game with the launch of new, automated self-serve pick-up towers at select store locations across the country.

The 16-ft-tall towers went operational last week at five stores, allowing online customers to pick up their purchases in less than a minute, eliminating lengthy lines and wait times. The package retrieval process can be done by simply scanning a code from an email displayed on a smartphone.

Each tower can hold up to 250 parcels.

“We’re a test and learn culture and a big part of that is finding new ways to help our customers shop when they want and how they want,” said Greg Hicks, President, Canadian Tire Retail, in a statement.

“We’re very excited to be the first retailer in Canada to introduce the Self-Serve Pick-Up Towers to some of our busiest stores as one more example of how we’re meeting our customers’ evolving needs.”

The towers can be found at these locations:

    • North Vancouver
    • Calgary Mont Royal (new store opening November 8)
    • Saskatoon East
    • Toronto Queensway
    • Toronto Stockyards
