An 11-year-old child is in hospital after being shot in the chest by a .22 calibre pistol on Monday morning.
The child, a resident of the Pincher Creek Hutterite Colony according to a release from Pincher Creek RCMP, was shot after a 13-year-old child had found and accidentally fired the gun.

The release states that the older child had been playing with the weapon prior to it being fired and that there were no adults present at the time of the incident, which is stated in the release as being at approximately 11:30 am.
The wounded child has since been stabilized and brought to Calgary Children Hospital to receive further treatment.
The release states that police are currently investigating the incident, including details surrounding the safety and storage of the firearm in question.
