In Disney Pixar’s latest movie, Turning Red, you might spot a box of Timbits in one of the colourfully animated scenes. Of course, as someone who hails from Toronto, director Domee Shi had to include the iconic Canadian treat. While Tim Hortons is a mainstay in the city, there are plenty of other delicious restaurants to “turn red” over.
Many movies have been filmed in Toronto, but the city usually isn’t playing itself. You can see glimpses of Yonge Street and Lakeshore Boulevard in 2016’s Suicide Squad, as the setting for the gritty Midway City; Sherway Gardens stood in for a suburban Chicago mall in Mean Girls; and Toronto’s Greektown in The Danforth neighbourhood also stood in for Chicago.
