The 2020 US presidential election has been a stressful one, and America’s neighbors to the north are offering some comfort as the nation anxiously awaits results.

The phrase “emotional support Canadian” was trending on Twitter on election night, when the race between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden was still too close to call.

“Emotional Support Canadians are on standby. If you have not yet received your Emotional Support Canadian, one will be assigned to you shortly,” user @Darth_Pingu tweeted.

Some Canadians offered comforts like snacks and alcohol, while others volunteered more destructive coping techniques, including offering to “burn the White House down again,” referencing the War of 1812.

Some US residents caught onto the trend, requesting an emotional support Canadian.
