Carnival Cruise Line is extending its sailing suspensions

Carnival Cruise Line is among a list of multiple cruise companies extending service suspensions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

All Carnival sailings through and including June 26, 2020, are now canceled, as well as all San Francisco sailings through 2020 and Carnival Sunrise sailings through and including October 19, 2020.

All Carnival Legend sailings through and including October 30, 2020, as well as all Carnival Radiance sailings through and including November 1, 2020, are also suspended.

Most passengers previously booked on cruises with the company who canceled their bookings will receive a full refund. Some packages include on-ship credit to be used when sailing at a later date.

“We truly value our guests and appreciate your patience and understanding,” Carnival explains on its website. “To that end, we want to provide flexibility as you think about your future plans.”

Norwegian Cruise Line has also extended its suspension of sailings through May 14, 2020, and anticipates resuming service starting May 15, 2020.

Guests that were booked on cruises that have since been suspended will automatically receive a 125% or 150% refund in the form of future cruise credit that can be applied towards any trip from October 1, 2020, through December 31, 2022.

These future cruise credits have all been applied for all canceled sailings except for those that were scheduled to leave between May 11 and May 14, 2020.

Additionally, Viking River Cruises has also extended its service suspensions.

The company announced in early March that it would be suspending both river and sea cruises for voyages taking place between March 12 and April 30.

However, the company recently issued an update on its website explaining that the suspension has now been extended to June 30, 2020.

Viking is also offering future cruise vouchers valued at 125% of funds paid to the company.

Such enhancements include selecting longer itineraries, adding a pre or post-cruise extension, or upgrading your stateroom.

“You will have 24 months to use your Future Cruise Voucher to make a new reservation on any river, ocean or expedition cruise,” the cruise line explains on its website.

Finally, Italian cruise line Costa announced that it would be extending its original suspension, which was until April 30 to May 31, 2020.

Passengers will receive a voucher equivalent to the value that they paid to the cruise line.

With so much uncertainty surrounding when travel is likely to resume, many sectors are playing the waiting game, including the cruise industry.

Cruise lines have been hit particularly hard in terms of financial losses suffered due to the coronavirus pandemic.
