9 of the best vegetarian restaurants in Portland

Nov 20 2019, 6:00 am

PDX is, without question, the Mecca of vegan and vegetarian food in the Pacific Northwest. Our city’s commitment to an eco-friendly lifestyle, veganism, and local businesses means that Portland’s culinary experts have worked to create some of the most incredible plant-based menus that go far beyond just avocado on toast.

While vegetarian food still conjures up images of generic salad bowls and green juices for the uninitiated, these restaurants have found a way to put an incredible vegetarian spin on different world cuisines — including southern-style barbecue.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a vegan, vegetarian, or still riding the meat rain, you can enjoy some of the increadible bites at these spots.

The vintage-style restaurant offers gluten-free vegetarian fare made from organic, local produce. They also have an extensive list of smoothies, wellness shots, and fresh-pressed juices that will make you glow from the inside out.

This stylish spot offers vegan fusion food which includes both raw and cooked items. Korean bibimbap, sinfully cheesy mac and cheese, chorizo tacos, and good old fashioned cheeseburgers make this vegan haunt an absolute must-visit. The best part is that their menu is totally organic, and features local produce whenever possible. Our personal favorite is the Live Nachos, a mouthwatering plate of chips topped with vegan cheese, pecan chorizo, tomatoes, scallions, and guacamole.

Israeli food is brought to life at this rustic-chic vegan restaurant. Combining the exotic flavours of the Middle East and the local produce of the Northwest, Aviv’s menu features classic Israeli favorites like bourekas or baked stuffed puff pastries , falafel, shawarma, and brisket all made with delicious plant-based meat alternatives. The best part is that Aviv also offers a brunch menu featuring vegan misozuke eggs as part of their spin on the Israeli breakfast staple shakshuka.

Harlow’s sister restaurant, Prasad is located inside Yoga Pearl and offers a plethora of carefully designed salad bowls, smoothies, juices, and even breakfast items like waffles, and vegan parfait. We personally recommend the chipotle chilli bowl served with jalapeño cashew sauce and quinoa, then washed down with their earthy and warm turmeric latte.
