Environment Canada issues wind warning for Montreal today

Get ready for a windy Monday, Montreal.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Gusts of over 90 km/h are expected near Île d’Orleans and the Quebec City coastal region early this morning as well as in Sept-Îles this afternoon.

“Given the presence of leaves in some trees, these severe winds will cause issues, such as broken branches and power outages,” said Environment Canada in a statement.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.”

Things will clear up for Halloween tomorrow as there is only a 30% chance of showers with a mix of sun and cloud.

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

A low pressure system over New England this morning will move toward Northern Quebec today.

As this storm approaches, high winds are expected near Île d’Orleans and the Quebec City coastal region early this morning as well as in Sept-Îles this afternoon.

However, the strongest winds will occur in the wake of the low. Late this morning, winds will shift to the southwest with gusts to 90 km/h over the Upper Saint-Lawrence, then spread toward Quebec City this afternoon reaching the Upper North Shore this evening.

Given the presence of leaves in some trees, these severe winds will cause issues, such as broken branches and power outages.

Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
