Vancouver-based fashion label Eshajori channels early 2000s streetwear

Vancouver-based streetwear brand Eshajori has released its inaugural collection for Spring/Summer 2021. And despite being a newly launched label, the brand is hoping to channel the essence of streetwear from the early 2000s.

Eshajori was founded by Matt Lam, who explains that the brand’s name, pronounced e-sha-jori, is translated from the Japanese phrase of “those who meet, must part.”

“In its literal form, the phrase explains that nothing is forever,” Lam tells Daily Hive. “On a more conceptual form, I designed the products to be limited and produced in small batches. Once a product sells out, you won’t see it again — when it’s gone, it’s gone.”

“The motto itself is based on that — everything is produced in one run. In the early 2000s, the aura of streetwear itself was to be exclusive and you needed to find ways to obtain it. Back then, brands like Bape and the Hundreds were designed to be a rarity. That’s something I want to portray in this brand.”

The SS21 collection consists of T-shirts, a heavyweight hoodie, a beanie, and a trucker hat. Most pieces were developed and produced in Los Angeles, while the beanie was hand-knit and made in Canada.

“Our pieces are produced in small batches and do not restock,” Lam says. “As we evolve, each piece created represents a moment in time.”

Esharjori’s first collection will release on Friday, March 12, at 9 am PST and 12 pm EST.
