After the driver of the semi-truck was arrested this summer in connection with the bus crash that killed 16 people in the Humboldt bus crash, Alberta Transportation Minister Brian Mason announced on Wednesday that 29-year-old Sukhmander Singh of Adesh Deol Trucking Ltd. has been charged with non-compliance with federal and provincial safety regulations.

Mason said the charges follow an investigation “that was completed by Alberta Transportation into the collision in 2018.”

He added that the investigation found “multiple instances of” non-compliance with various transportation regulations in a six-month period.

Sidhu was arrested without incident on July 6 at his home in Calgary.

The bus carrying players and coaching staff from the Saskatchewan Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team was hit by the semi-trailer on Friday, April 6.

The crash killed 16 people, including the bus driver, while 14 others were injured.

Police say there were 29 people onboard the bus, which was en route to Nipawin for a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League semifinals playoff game, when the crash took place about 30 km north of Tisdale, Saskatchewan.
