Report: Blue Jays are trying to trade closer Roberto Osuna

Roberto Osuna is on the trade block.

According to a report from MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Toronto Blue Jays are looking to move their 23-year-old closer, as teams inch closer to Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadline.

Thirteen and a half games back of a playoff spot, the Blue Jays are selling at this year’s deadline. They’ve already sent JA Happ to the Yankees and Seunghwan Oh to the Rockies, with more moves expected.

Trading Osuna now would be selling low on the 2017 MLB All-Star, who has been an important player over the last three seasons. But bringing him back would be a PR nightmare.

Osuna is a player that Toronto likely would have wanted to hold onto, if not for his recent transgressions. He was arrested and charged with assault on May 8, and hasn’t pitched for the Jays since then. His next court date is on Wednesday, but he’s eligible to return to pitch in MLB again on August 5.
