7 of the best dating apps for those seeking quarantine love

May 14 2020, 10:36 pm
Let’s face it, physical distancing can be lonely.
Lucky for us, we’re living in 2020 and have plenty of ways to distance date while meeting billions of people at our fingertips.
Daily Hive would like to remind you to continue distance dating and avoid meeting up for in-person dates at the moment.

“Those people that we have been talking to online, these are our opportunities, but we need to be very careful about it, cautious about it, and be sure that we follow the guidance around cleaning our hands, etcetera,” BC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said in a press conference on Tuesday.

She added that we need to find “small thoughtful ways” to connect. Ultimately, if you are looking for love, Henry advises “this is not the time to do rapid, serial dating.”

While it’s not the time for random hookups, we suggest using this time to build genuine connections on one of these seven apps:

Tinder

Being one of the original dating apps, Tinder gets a lot of attention — so will you if you keep swiping right. According to Tinder, more than 26 million matches are made on the app per day.

Bumble

Bumble focuses on females by forcing women to make the first move. The app claims that in doing so, they’re “levelling the playing field and changing the dynamics of dating.” The app allows for in-app video calls, as well as settings for those looking to make new friends or business connections.

Hinge

Hinge’s motto is that it’s “designed to be deleted.” Unlike other dating apps, swiping right alerts the person that you’ve liked them. Build your profile by answering fun prompts before shooting your shot and throwing yourself out there.

Peel

Peel is for those looking for a serious relationship in Toronto. The app only allows you to talk to two people at once and focuses on matching you with the right people with meaningful conversations that lead to (distanced) dates and connections.

Her

Her calls itself the “largest and most loved free dating app for LGBTQ women.” Unlike Bumble and Tinder, this app has fewer “couples looking for threesomes” and more womxn who genuinely want to make connections.

Tantan

Known mostly for being a Chinese dating app, Tantan allows users to swipe and connect with those around them. An interesting feature of Tantan is its secret crush option, which allows you “secretly like” one of your contacts. If that contact secretly likes you back, the app will let you know.

Coffee Meets Bagel

Coffee Meets Bagel tries to deviate from the hookups and go towards meaningful connections. Every day at 12, the app’s algorithm will display a new round of profiles for you to pick through. Check out in-depth profiles, and start chatting.
