Though the city recently announced a bylaw that will prohibit plastic bags from being sold in grocery stores, Montreal’s supermarkets can still do a lot more to reduce waste.

One grocery store by the name of Mega Vrac has decided to go a step further in their quest to reduce waste.

In fact, Mega Vrac is Montreal’s newly opened and first ever zero waste grocery store.

How can a grocery store produce zero waste, you may ask? Well, Mega Vrac gets rid of all unnecessary packaging.

Customers are asked to bring their own reusable containers and bags to carry out their purchased items, however, if you forget, Mega Vrac will sell you reusable cloth bags, pots, and bottles on site to carry home your groceries.

As for the items themselves, they are stored in reusable containers on shelves and tables throughout the store.

There are over 700 different products available at Mega Vrac, from coffee and tea to nuts and fruit.

Join the zero waste movement and help Montreal to become even greener.

Mega Vrac is located in Rosemont, at 2649 Rue Masson.
