Hamilton Police are currently under fire after a video from a McMaster University homecoming party shows a woman getting hit and trampled by a police horse during the celebrations.

A video shared on social media over the weekend shows a mounted Hamilton police officer riding his horse through a crowd of partygoers in the city’s Westdale area Saturday afternoon while conducting crowd control, knocking the woman to the ground and then walking over her.

According to Hamilton Police spokesperson Jackie Penman, officers were clearing the road to allow for the passage of emergency vehicles and the Mounted Unit.

In the video, it appears the woman, who had her back to the oncoming horse, was struck by one of the horse’s legs as it rode past her while she was on the ground.

Following the incident, a number of partygoers can be seen running up to assist the woman, while two officers walk past her without stopping to help.

According to Penman, following the incident, two officers did stop and attend to the young woman and sat with her until paramedics arrived on the scene.

“We’re thankful the young woman is okay and we’ll be reviewing the incident to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” said Penman.

A video of the incident was posted on Canadian Party Life on Sunday, getting well over 90,000 views by Monday morning.
