IKEA chest of drawers recalled due to "tip-over hazards"

IKEA is recalling its KULLEN three-drawer chest, which has been sold by the company for more than 14 years, and in Canada specifically since 2016.

The chest presents a “tip-over hazard,” according to the company.

While safe to use if attached to a wall — per the assembly instructions — the chest has been sold with a permanent “tip-over warning label,” and has always been sold with tip-over restraints, the company says.

The company says it has not identified any reports of serious injuries involving the chest anywhere in the world.

Still, anyone in Canada who has not properly anchored their KULLEN should stop using it due to the related risks, and are advised to take it to Returns & Exchanges at any IKEA location for a refund.

Further, anyone who wants to keep the three-drawer chest, but who didn’t keep their tip-over restraint, can pick up a free wall-anchoring kit at any IKEA location. There’s also the option of contacting the Customer Support Centre at 1-800-661-9807 or visiting the website to have one delivered to their home.

IKEA says the company will provide a one-time, free, in-home wall-anchoring service for consumers upon request.

IKEA continues to encourage consumers to anchor all chest of drawers to the wall.
