Haven’t tried Montreal’s El Gordo taco bar yet? Here’s what you’re missing.

There’s no shortage of places to get your burrito and taco fix these days. In Saint Henri, especially, it’s quickly becoming the go-to area in the city for Mexican style food. One of such great places is El Gordo, the hip new taco bar from the people who brought us Geppetto and Le Bon Vivant.

With an eclectic Mexican look and feel, El Gordo’s food and drink game is very strong. Sipping on a Snowbird, a blanche beer and margarita mix, and a Caipirinha, made with cachaca, st. Germain, limes, and oranges, are great ways to keep cool and “hydrated” in the summertime heat.

The nachos stacked with jalapeno peppers, grilled corn, pickled onions, pico de gallo, tender grilled chicken, all covered with cheese. How can that be bad? Also, the Mexican wings were sweet and spicy. Great way to start this satisfying feast.

As great and the drinks and apps, the tacos shine at El Gordo. Typically a little smaller than the ones some of us may be used to, 3 tacos come with each order.

One of the most popular ones are the Camarones filled with grilled marinated shrimps, chirizo iberico, chipotle cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole.

Don’t miss out on the brisket tacos with creamy apple and cabbage slaw, pico de gallo, and crispy shallots. Succulent and delicious!

Here’s a tip for dessert: order the churros and for an extra dollar, make sure to have the spicy Mexican chocolate dipping sauce AND a sweet caramel dipping sauce called cajeta.
