DeMar DeRozan took another step towards acceptance, following the earth-shattering trade that sent him to San Antonio.

On Saturday, DeRozan posted a photo to Instagram, thanking fans in Toronto and Canada in an accompanied heartfelt personal message.

“Words could never express what you’ve meant to me,” DeRozan wrote. “I was just a 19-year-old kid from Compton when we first met, but you took me in and embraced me as one of your own. I am so grateful for the love and passion that you’ve given me over the past nine years. All I ever wanted to do was duplicate it 10 times over just to show my appreciation.

“Thank you Toronto, thank you Canada.”

The image is the only one currently on DeRozan’s Instagram page, after he recently wiped it clean. Since news of his trade to the Spurs, DeRozan has been communicating with cryptic Insta-stories, showing feelings of betrayal from the only NBA team he has ever known.

Raptors President Masai Ujiri was apologetic on Friday, admitting that he may have inadvertently misled the team’s franchise player.

Meanwhile, the man DeRozan was traded for, Kawhi Leonard, arrived in Toronto on Friday, posing for a photo posted for Raptors’ social media.
