Almost half of Canadians say they would boycott products and venues that bear the “Trump” brand, a new nationwide Insights West poll has found.
In an online survey, 45% of Canadian respondents said they were at least somewhat likely to boycott a hotel, restaurant or store in a “Trump” property— in BC that figure rose to 65%.

Some 41% of the respondents said they were likely to boycott a store that sells “Trump” brand products, and 32% would cancel a trip to the US because of Trump’s presidency.
Meanwhile, 28% would avoid purchasing goods originating from the US if a non-American alternative is available, and 21% would avoid American restaurant franchises in Canada.
“Canadians are starting to express their displeasure with the political situation in the United States with their wallets,” said Mario Canseco, vice president of public affairs at Insights West. “There are sizeable proportions of residents who will avoid the Trump brand, and smaller groups of Canadians who are ready to shun American products.”
Across the country, 76% of Canadian respondents said they have an unfavourable opinion of Donald Trump—including 84% of those aged 18-to-34 and 90% of those in BC.
The level of animosity towards Trump subsided among three groups of respondents.
Only 40% of respondents who voted Conservative in the 2015 federal election, 29% of male respondents and 26% of those in Ontario held favourable views of the American President.
Some 73% of respondents were concerned about the fact that Donald Trump is now the President of the United States.
Results are based on an online study conducted from February 23 to February 25, 2017, among a representative sample of 1,001 Canadian adults.
