The Calgary Police Service has confirmed that the man suspected in last month’s Marlborough Park murder is now dead.

Adam Bettahar, a 21-year-old Calgary man, had been wanted on a Canada-wide first-degree murder warrant following the death of 22-year-old Nadia El-Dib, also of Calgary.

El-Dib’s body had been found in a Marlborough Park backyard on Sunday, March 25, and police believed that Bettahar had fled the area in a 2004 Ford Explorer.

According to a release from the Evansburg RCMP on March 29, a man they suspected to be Bettahar was pursued by police until a tire deflation device was successfully used on his vehicle.

Shots were fired by both the suspect and RCMP members, resulting in the death of the man and minor injuries to an officer.

Evansburg is a four-hour drive away from Calgary, located to the west of Edmonton, Alberta.

A release from the Calgary Police Service on Wednesday, April 4 stated that an autopsy confirmed the deceased suspect to be Adam Bettahar.

CPS states that they have concluded the investigation into the murder of El-Dib following the autopsy’s confirmation.
