The Tokyo Summer Olympics won’t start until July, but Team Canada is already looking like a bunch of gold-medal winners.

With the recent release of the United States Olympic uniforms, many online compared the outfits put out by Canada last summer.

The US opted for some preppy uniforms designed by Ralph Lauren, while as many pointed out online, Canada went in a completely different direction.

It’s safe to say that our athletes will stand out, most notably with their choice of Closing Ceremony attire. Canada’s athletes will be rocking Canadian tuxedos during the event, which includes a jean jacket and Japanese street art mixed in.

This set the internet ablaze, with many sharing their vocal opinions regarding the design of the Canadian look.

Hudson’s Bay unveiled the Team Canada Collection last summer which featured many traditional stylings, including a red jacket with a big maple leaf on the back for the Opening Ceremony.

“The clothing included in the Team Canada Collection is not only stylish, but functional, featuring sweat-wicking, light fabrics to keep athletes cool and comfortable, no matter the weather,” Team Canada says on its website.

“Tokyo is also known for its street art and fashion. We paid tribute to this in the must-have piece of the Collection – the forever cool jean jacket. The graffiti graphic and unexpected patch placements capture a youthful and celebratory feel.”

Moving past the Closing Ceremony fit, the Canadian team will also be sporting various looks for the other major events that will take place during the Olympics.

Here are the other uniforms that Canadian Olympic athletes will wear in Tokyo:

Opening Ceremony

To start Canada’s run at the Olympics, athletes will be wearing a red jacket with a maple leaf prominently placed on the back.

There are 13 stripes in the maple leaf to represent the unity of Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories. The jacket is also made from lightweight and water-resistant nylon.

Underneath the jacket will feature a white t-shirt featuring a maple leaf in a red circle on the chest. Canadian decathlete Pierce LePage is showing it off below.

Victory Ceremony

When Canadian athletes make it onto the podium, they will do so sporting a jacket with “Canada” across the back. It will be paired with track pants with a maple leaf graphic on the leg.
