Following the series of horrific killings that rocked Toronto’s LGBTQ community, a documentary is airing in Canada that explores the case and the victims of serial killer Bruce McArthur.

Premiering on CBC Docs POV, ‘Village of the Missing’ will explore how McArthur chose his victims as well as their cultural backgrounds and ties to the city’s gay village.

Featuring interviews with community members, activists, journalists and Mayor John Tory, the doc will also look at how McArthur was able to commit his gruesome acts of violence in the heart of Canada’s largest city.

The 67-year-old self-employed landscaper committed his murders between 2010 and 2017 and was arrested in January 2018.

In February, McArthur was sentenced to life in prison, with no chance of parole for 25 years after pleading guilty to eight counts of first-degree murder.

His murder charges were in connection with the deaths Selim Esen, Skandaraj Navaratnam, Andrew Kinsman, Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi, Dean Lisowick, Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnama, and Abdulbasir Faizi — who all had ties to the city’s gay village.

Toronto Mayor John Tory has called the murders “heinous.”

Police have said that McArthur dismembered his victims and forensic specialists confirmed the remains of seven of the men turned up in planters seized at the 53 Mallory Crescent home where McArthur worked, while the remains of an eighth man were found in a nearby ravine.

Village of the Missing premieres on CBC Docs POV on March 22 at 9 pm ET/PT.
