And today, the tech giant is launching its all-new Apple TV app, which brings together the different ways to discover and watch shows, movies, and more in one app.

Starting May 13, the overhauled TV app, which features a fresh new look and improved functionality, will be available in over 100 countries on iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, all 2019 Samsung smart TVs and select 2018 models.

Through the new app, users will be greeted by the ‘Watch Now’ and ‘Up Next’ features, allowing customers to keep track of all the TV shows and movies that they’re watching.

Personalized Recommendations

Through machine learning, the new app can predict what a viewer will want to watch next, based on a user’s viewing preferences and history, allowing watching TV to fully be on the customer’s terms.

A user’s personalized recommendations will be pulled from a curated list of shows and movies from more than 150 video apps and streaming services and over 100,000 iTunes movies and TV shows.

This includes the largest collection of 4K HDR titles available to browse, buy, or rent. Additionally, customers will be to enjoy all of their previously purchased movies and TV shows from iTunes in the redesigned Library tab.

Apple TV Channels

Customers will be able to subscribe to an impressive lineup of Apple TV channels all within the app and only pay for the ones they want.

This includes popular services like Acorn and HBO. More will be added over time, including CBS All-Access and Smithsonian Channel.

But more importantly, users will now be able to watch and download their shows and movies both online and offline, allowing them to watch their favourite programs anywhere and at any time.

For the Family

The new app will also have a stronger focus on family-friendly content, and customers can enjoy a new, dedicated ‘Kids’ section, highlighting editorially handpicked shows and movies for kids of all ages.

Additionally, through ‘Family Sharing,’ up to six family members can share subscriptions to Apple TV channels using just their Apple ID and password.

Availability

While the software upgrade is available May 13 for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV customers, it will also be available on Mac this fall.

Also starting on May 13, through AirPlay 2-enabled Samsung Smart TVs, customers can seamlessly play videos and other content from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac directly to their Samsung Smart TV.

Furthermore, customers with eligible VIZIO, LG, and Sony smart TVs will also be able to enjoy AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support later this year.
